27 Incredibly Fun Camping Games for Couples

If you’re looking to spend quality time with your partner on a camping trip, two-player games can be a great way to pass the time at your campsite.

I’ve gone on lots of camping trips with my husband and we’ve tested so many games to keep ourselves entertained while we’re unplugged from our devices.

What makes these great camping games for couples? These are games that are for 2 players and require little to no equipment, so you don’t have to pack a lot of extra stuff. They also can be played with no electronics or Wi-Fi.

Ready to play? Here are 27 fun camping games for couples.

Conversation Games for Couples

All of these games for couples only involve talking. This makes them great games to play around the campfire since they don’t require moving or sitting across from each other. Some of these can even be great games to play on the drive to and from your campground.

Never Have I Ever

Never Have I Ever is a great game to play with your partner while sharing a bottle of wine.

On your turn, you say something that you have never done. For example, you might say “Never have I ever fallen asleep at work.” If your partner has done that thing, they take a drink (or some other consequence).

The things you share can be as mundane or risqué as you want, as long as you’ve never done them.

This game can be a great way to learn more about your partner. Or if you already know a lot about your partner’s past, it’s a chance to show how much you’ve listened if you want to target things that you haven’t done but they have.

Twenty Questions

Twenty Questions is a fun game to get your brain thinking.

To play, you and your partner take turns thinking of an object or person and your opponent has to figure out what it is in 20 questions or less. The questions can only be yes or no questions. For example, you could ask “Is it bigger than a pencil?” but not “How big is it?”

This is a great game to help pass the time while you’re setting up camp or taking a walk in nature.

Truth or Dare

Truth or dare is a great way to bond with your partner by sharing secrets and engaging in scandalous dares.

Take turns choosing to either tell the truth or accept a dare.

If you chose truth, the other person has to ask a question that needs to be answered honestly. If you chose dare, the other person suggests a challenge for you to do.

As with Never Have I Ever, the questions and dares can be as innocent or intimate as you want.

The Alphabet Game

The alphabet game is a memory game in which you take turns listing items starting with the letters A through Z. The challenge is that you have to remember and list every item previously mentioned before you say a new item.

For example, the first person may say, “I’m going on a camping trip and I’m bringing apples.” On your partner’s turn, they may say “I’m going on a camping trip and I’m bringing apples and bananas.” Then it would be your turn to list apples and bananas before listing an item that starts with the letter C, and so on.

This game is typically played with the prompt “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing…”. However, you could change the prompt to put a romantic spin on this game. For example, you could take turns listing things you love about each other.

Would You Rather

Would You Rather is a game where you take turns coming up with two hypothetical scenarios and asking your partner which one they’d rather do. For example you might ask “Would you rather have the ability to fly or to be invisible?”

The scenarios can be as unpleasant, ridiculous, far-fetched, or profound as you can think of.

If you and your partner have been a couple for a while and have created a lot of memories together, up the cute factor of this game by going down memory lane. For instance, compare a terrible experience you had (such as getting a flat tire in the middle of the night) to a hypothetical problem – as long as enough time has passed to laugh about the bad memory.

Two Truths and a Lie

Two Truths and a Lie is a fun way to get to know more about your partner.

To play, one person lists 3 statements about themself. Two of the statements are true and one of the statements is a lie. The other person has to guess which one is the lie. Then swap roles.

It can be a challenging game if you feel like you and your partner know everything about each other. But it can be a great way to learn even more things about each other that may never come up in conversation otherwise, or just to see how many random stories you remember about each other.

Just a Minute

Just a Minute is a game from a popular BBC radio show that can be played with two people instead of a group of contestants. If you’re not familiar with the show, you can listen to past episodes to hear some examples.

Player one is given a topic which they have to talk about for a full minute without hesitating, repeating themselves, or switching topics. If they do, they get a point. Player two then gets a new topic and has a minute to speak about their topic.

If a whole minute is too challenging, one variation is to see who can discuss their topic for the longest amount of time.

Make this game extra special by picking relevant topics to your relationship. For example, pull from things you like about each other, certain memories, or each other’s interests. Just don’t be offended if your partner can’t think of content for a whole minute because the topic was thrown on them spur of the moment.

You Laugh, You Lose

You Laugh, You Lose is one of my favorite camping games for couples. It’s a super fun game to play as it will have you and your partner laughing all night long!

On your turn, you have a minute to try and make your partner laugh. If they laugh before one minute is up, you get a point, but they get a point if they keep a straight face the whole time. But, this is one of those games where having the most fun is more important than keeping score.

It’s an excellent way to bond by sharing laughter and proving you know what makes the other person laugh!

I Spy

I Spy is a relaxing way to be present in the moment and take in the great outdoors while hanging out with your partner.

If you haven’t played before, here’s how to play. Pick an item within view and say that you spy something of that color. For example, if you chose the sky, say “I spy something blue.” Your partner then looks around and guesses items of that color until they correctly guess the item you chose.

I Spy is not so easy to play at night when it’s dark. It’s a game you’ll want to play during the day instead of around the campfire.

Drunk or Child

Drunk or Child is a silly game that let’s you learn fun stories that have happened in your partner’s life.

Each person will tell crazy stories that happened to them in their past. The other partner has to figure out if they were drunk or a child when these stories transpired.

Avoid sharing any clues that give away when it would have been (for instance, places or people that would have only been relevant later in life).

This game can be challenging to play if you already know a lot of each other’s silly stories. Therefore, it might be a better game for newer couples to play or to save and play on a camping trip with more adults.

Of course, this game doesn’t really apply if you or your partner don’t drink.

Active Games for Couples

These are games that require some amount of movement or action, so some of them might not work the best around a campfire. But they’re still great games for couples to play while camping because they can be played with two players and they don’t require packing any extra equipment.

Charades

Charades is a game that will have you moving and laughing for hours.

If you’ve never played charades before, players take turns acting out a word without talking. The other player has to correctly guess the word they are acting out.

Typically, charades is played in a larger group and the first person to guess correctly earns a point. For a two-player version, you may want to set a time limit for each person’s turn and only award points if they guess correctly within the time limit. I don’t typically care about tracking scores in charades, so we just end our turn when we’re stumped and give up.

Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts are a fun way to explore your campground while creating memories with your partner.

To set up a scavenger hunt, create a list of objects that need to be found. One option is to work as a team to find all of the items on the list together. Or if you’re feeling more competitive, you can race each other to be the first person to find all of the items.

If you don’t want to bring your own items to be found in the scavenger hunt, make a list of outdoorsy items like rock, pine cone, and stick. Just make sure you aren’t disturbing any ecologically sensitive areas or species when searching for and moving these items.

Hide and Seek

Hide and Seek is another classic game that gives you and your partner a chance to explore all over your campground.

One person closes their eyes and counts to 30 (or however much time you agree upon). While they’re counting, the second person hides. Then the person who was counting has to go find the person who is hiding. Swap roles once you’ve found them.

When you’re playing hide and seek outdoors, it can be helpful to set boundaries of where it’s ok to hide. For example, hide only within your campsite or the campground. This will prevent the seeker from wandering all over the woods trying to find you.

The Kissing Game

The Kissing Game is not a game where you keep score, but a fun way to add a romantic touch throughout your camping trip with your partner.

Similar to a drinking game where you pick a rule and drink every time it happens, pick an action or word and kiss each other every time it occurs.

Pick camping-specific rules such as “kiss every time you see an animal”, “kiss every time someone opens the cooler”, or “kiss every time someone utters camping words like ‘tent’, ‘fire’, etc.”

Card Games for Couples

Here are a variety of two-player card games that couples can play while camping. All you need is a deck of cards! It’s a good idea to practice these games at home so you don’t need to look up the rules when you’ve already lost cell service at your campsite.

Crazy 8s

Crazy 8s is a card game that’s similar to Uno, only it’s played with a standard deck of cards.

The gist of the game is to get rid of all of the cards in your hand by placing down cards that match either the suit or number of the card in the center pile.

In this game, 8s are wild, hence the name of the game.

Slapjack

Slapjack is an incredibly simple game that requires quick reflexes and speed.

Take turns putting a card down in a pile. When a Jack is discarded, slap the pile. The first person to slap the pile gets to take the whole stack and the goal is to win all of the cards in the deck.

You may want to use an old deck of cards since they may get damaged during the game.

If you like this game, keep in mind that it can also be played with more than 2 people when you’re camping with a larger group of family or friends.

Speed

Speed is another card game that requires quick movements and reflexes. I suggest playing it when you’re feeling energetic and sharp.

The object of the game is to get rid of all of your cards. Players can place a card from their hand onto one of the center piles if the card is one number higher or lower than a card in the center. The catch is that there are no turns; players constantly discard cards at the same time as each other.

Spit

If you like playing Speed, you’ll probably also enjoy Spit.

They are very similar games in their goal and rules, but the cards are set up in a different layout.

Gin Rummy

There are many variations of the card game Rummy, but Gin Rummy is a popular version that is played with two players.

The aim of the game is to make combinations of 3 cards of the same rank (e.g. 3 sixes) or runs of the same suit (e.g. the 5, 6, and 7 of spades).

Go Fish

Go Fish is a classic card game.

It doesn’t require much skill to learn or play, so it can be a nice option for a relaxing evening with your partner.

The goal of Go Fish is to get the most 4-of-a-kind sets (e.g. 4 Aces, 4 threes, etc.).

War

War is a game of luck. Absolutely no strategy is needed to play this card game.

It’s kind of a mindless game, but it’s a good choice if you’re looking for something that isn’t very competitive or doesn’t require learning complicated rules. (This makes it a good game to play after your shared that bottle of wine playing Never Have I Ever!)

In this game, players simultaneously place a card from their hand face up in front of them. Whichever player has the higher card takes both cards. If both players place down a card of the same rank, you go to war! The goal is to win all of the cards in the deck.

Trash

Trash is a game of luck that’s a bit more engaging if you find War to be too simple. It’s still simple enough, though, that you and your partner can hold a conversation without being too distracted.

The goal of the game is to be the first person to draw and lay down cards ranging from Ace to 10.

Strip Poker

Strip poker can be a great camping game for couples. It’s a steamy game to bond with your partner, but you also don’t have to pack any poker chips or cash to gamble with. Win-win.

Traditionally, poker is played by gambling with chips or money. In strip poker, you bet the clothes you’re wearing instead. The goal is to keep your clothes on while the losing player removes their clothing one piece at a time.

This works as a camping game if you have enough room to play in your tent or have a very secluded campsite.

The specifics of strip poker can vary. You’ll need to choose a type of poker to play and decide how much each item of clothing is worth. So even though poker is generally played in larger groups, you can make your own rules to make it work for two players. Click here for some suggested poker variations.

Board Games for Couples

It’s difficult to find board games that are suitable for 2 players. Here is a short list of games that are good for two that are also compact or can withstand the outdoors while you’re camping.

Connect Four

In Connect Four, players take turns dropping their pieces into a grid with a goal of connecting 4 of their pieces in a row.

It’s not a very complicated game to learn. It’s a seemingly simple game that is often played by children, but it can be challenging to win when two adults are playing against each other.

Bananagrams

Bananagrams is a game that’s similar to Scrabble. But instead of playing together on a board, players race to make their own crosswords.

The only equipment in this game is a set of letter tiles, all packed in a small banana-shaped pouch.

Just make sure you don’t lose any letter tiles at the campground. It may be helpful if you have a blanket or tablecloth to create a flat surface to lay the tiles on while you play.

Bananagrams can be played with 2 to 8 players, so it can be played whether you’re camping as a couple or a group.

Uno

Uno is similar to the card game Crazy 8s. However, it’s more elaborate with specialty cards that affect the game such as skip, reverse, and draw two.

Make sure you agree on the rules with your partner before beginning the game. I’ve played with lots of different people that insist on slightly different rules.

Uno can be played with 2 to 10 players so it’s another game to pack whether you’re camping as a couple or a group.
